Grand Prix 2005 List and Rules: (entry deadline is November 21, 2005 – no exceptions.)

The goal of Grand Prix 2005 is to photograph four (4) different images of each of the five (5) subjects listed below (for a total of 20 images) on one roll of slide film.  In addition to the 20 required images, there is an allowance for four (4) mistakes or ‘oops’ images for a total of 24 opportunities to complete the assignment.  Two rolls of film may be used, but all 24 exposures must be contiguous within the two rolls in order to qualify.  For example, 15 images may be on the end of roll one, while the remaining 9 images are at the beginning of roll two.

The subjects may be interpreted in any fashion you like.  Record the frame number of each image, note if it is “horizontal” or “vertical” and give a brief description of the picture.

Have your film processed and sent directly to Pat Lindsay (c/o your name), 11531 Eagle Rd., Davisburg MI 48350-1411.  If processed locally, give your UNOPENED slides to Pat at one of our meetings.  You are NOT allowed to look at your slides.  Also be sure to provide Pat with your identification list.  The entry deadline is November 21, 2005 – no exceptions.

Each image will be judged separately for interpretation and creativity, as well as the usual photographic standards.  Each image will be awarded points for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and /or HM (if there are enough entries).  The highest total award score of the 20 images will receive a medal and the traveling trophy for one year.  Ribbons will be awarded to the other winners – the number of which is dependent on the number of entries.  The winners will be announced at the Grand Prix presentation sometime after January 1, 2006 and at that time everyone will see their slides for the first time.

It’s wonderful exercise, forcing you to think about how to capture the image in your mind’s eye.  No one completes it without a sense of having learned a lot while enjoying the challenge of the process.   Get out there, have fun, think, plan, and capture those great images!

If you have any questions, contact Pat Lindsay at: eaglehillacres@juno.com or Beverly Wolf at: bev_wolf@comcast.net.

Meeting Minutes

Tonight's Competition:

PPS Print Competition (Monochrome, Color)

Special Assignment:

Statuary

President: (Judy Yaker)

New Members: Jim Paskiewicz (from the old Avon Club)

We have a new meeting place -- 2303 Crescent Lake Rd.  It’s an old school just north of Civic Center Drive on the west side of Crescent Lake Rd.

Sam and Judy Yaker will be driving to Bosque Del Apache, NM the week after Thanksgiving.  They’ve invited us to join them shooting Sand Hill Cranes.

GDCCC Board Meeting notes:

This year’s Salon judging will be held on Saturday, September 17th at La Salle Bank (Standard Federal's new name) on Big Beaver in Troy. There's no cafeteria in the building, so we'll have to bring in food for the workers.

Photoshop Study Group – It was agreed that we should not buy the CD set, and it was agreed that we should not try to have another session…. It's difficult to schedule a time and place, too few came for the first session, someone needs to provide a projector and laptop computer, and anyone can rent the CDs from PSA if they want to.

Rick Sammon Seminar – GDCCC will host a seminar featuring Rick Sammon on 9/24/05.  $45 per person.  Website www.ricksammon.com.  He presents on digital photography but is user-friendly, less technical.  He is a working professional photographer, sponsored by Canon, and will have books, CDs and software to sell.

Digital Projection Division (DPD) – Motor City, Photo Guild, Pontiac and West Oakland have all been holding club Digital Projection competitions this year.  The question was raised asking when we could officially start interclub DPD competitions.  Susan K. Browne will chair a committee (Judy Yaker, John Kroll, Joe Sroka) to write up draft rules for creation of a new Digital Projection Division.  We will hold two trial runs (Thursday, September 29 – Hosted by Motor City and held at Motor City and Thursday, November 3 – Hosted by Pontiac but held at Motor City (Motor City has the space – Pontiac doesn’t)).  All of the GDCCC member clubs can submit DPD entries, even if they don't have local club DPD competitions.  If all goes well, the board will be able to vote on the new division and rules at the December meeting so that official DPD competition can start January 1, 2006.

Vice-President: (Bev Wolf)
